Maolisa History

Maolisa Irish Step Dance Troupe was formed in February 2004.  Our first public performed was March 2004 in Marion, Iowa.

Maolisa came out of a time of pain and trial, when Kaleena's dreams seemed to be dashed.  At that low point God birthed the idea of a dance troupe that would minister to others.  Because we view Maolisa as a gift from God, we endeavor to give all Glory to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for allowing the troupe to continue to bring dance to those who may not have the opportunity to see and experience dance.

We perform at Nursing Homes, Retirement Center, Celtic Festival. Churches, Cultural Fairs, Pre-Schools, and many other venues.  We do not advertise our troupe and all our performances have been through word of mouth.  We perform twice a month, typically on weekends.   Dances include traditional Jigs, Reels and Set dances.  Also included are many original pieces of choreography.

Our families come from Cedar Rapids area, Solon, and Mt. Vernon, Iowa.  At present there are 5 dancers in our troupe.  All of our dancers take lessons at Dance Arts Iowa in Mt. Vernon where Kaleena teaches Beginning through Advanced Irish Step Dance and Beginning through Advanced Ballet, ages (approximately) 6-Adult.

Kaleena has her degree in Dance from the University of Iowa and will be furthering her dance education this summer in New York City at the American Ballet Theatre.
